...cornus sanguinea. need i say more? probably. no one know what that stuff means, but its really a name for a plant whose common names are "Winter Beauty" or "Bloodtwig Dogwood" or "Winter Fire". it begins with the name...i mean, i am a winter beauty right? i was born in december:o) but really it all started with this quote i found in a gardening magazine (my dad's) that really struck me: "many plants thrive under regular hard pruning and perform better than they would if left alone." man...that's deep huh? well...this plant was the mascot of that quote and what struck me was its vibrant red colored branches. so, i decided to look the plant up and read more about it. here's what i found...its almost eery...it fits me so well.
Hardiness Zones: 4-7
Habit: Deciduous
Growth Rate: Slow to moderate
Site Requirements: Sun to partial shade; well drained soil
Texture: Medium
Form: Loose, unkept floppy habit (i don't know about this part so much;o); spreading rounded top; multistemmed ; dense twiggy habit
Height: 6 to 15'
Width: 6 to 15' (hopefully not this so much!!)
Leaf: 1.5 to 3" simple, opposite leaves; blood red fall color
Flower/Fruit: White flowers in May to early June; flat topped cyme; .25" purplish black fruit in fall
Comments: Easy to transplant; fibrous roots; very adoptable; not a good specimen plant; suckers freely; quite adoptable
*i swear i didn't make this up...i copy and pasted it from this nc state webstie. the parts that hit me the most were the white blooms and the comments about adaptability. i hope and pray these describe me the most. for i want my blooms...my fruit...my beauty to be white...pure...and come out in the coldest times!! and i truly hope that i am always easy to transplant knowing that God is my only permanant home and He travels with me.
So....what's your plant??
